She called me at 2am
waking me to tell me
that her power went out
and that there was
no possible way that
she would be
able to sleep as
cold
as the night
was.
I said she should spend the
night here.
“Perfect,
because if I’m not
going to be sleeping, I’d
rather the reason to be you,”
by the time she came over
I fell asleep, apparently
snoring, mouth open on my couch
and she found it rude to just
flat out wake me, so she took her time,
showered instead and then
proceeded to make bacon.
When I opened my eyes
to the heavenly aroma,
she was standing there,
hair still wet, wearing one
of my shirts as a night gown
(with nothing underneath)
holding a plate of bacon
smiling telling me to wake up
it was morning.
It was 4:30 and although
I usually brutally murder those
who wake me before
10, I just let her kiss me
or rather I kissed her
and kissed her
and well, kissed her
until she told me to stop
because the bacon was getting cold.
I told her “I love you.”
then we ate the bacon.
Later we were lying in bed,
bathed in an awkward
yet tender silence
her head was on my chest
her arms wrapped around me
she then looked up at me and asked
“why do you love me?”
I really didn’t know
so I told her it was because of the bacon,
and she put her head down and said
“I love you, too.” and started to laugh
I asked why
“because of your heat.”
We then kissed,
and the night sky became
day, and our breaths became
heavy and room became
warm, we showed each other
we loved each other for
much, much more.
Although I’m Jewish and I don’t eat bacon, I have to agree, love can sprout from bacon. Very lovely poem.
This was so beautiful and poetic. My husband definitely would say he loves me for the bacon (lol!), if I did that as well! Congrats on getting FP! 🙂

Well-done!
This is really beautiful. I expected something much more silly, and instead found something very sweet that made me make the most unmanly noises of approval.
Thanks for sharing–I really enjoyed.

hahahha I LOVE bacon too 😉
She woke you up to a plate of bacon! That’s a keeper!
You have a lovely way with words. I enjoyed reading this.
AWWWWWWW! I loved this! I don’t think it’s a “bad poem” at all. I’m a vegetarian now but I still LOVE bacon, even if I cant eat it. This poem was not only about your “love” of bacon but your love of another. It was sweet and funny and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for posting!
Thanks for saying such nice things! The whole “Bad Poem” is a old habit because this blog use to be called “Bad Poem” a day, and I changed a while back. Thanks for Reading!

AWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!
I love this! I regularly give bacon-chocolate treats as gifts as a display of love and affection.
Chocolate covered bacon has to be the epitome of “love and affection”
Very nice, I’m still smiling, and smelling bacon. 🙂
Jim
Perfect.
Don’t let this one go!
Have you seen this?–>
I never saw that video before, but seriously I can’t tell if that video is awesome or horrifying. Clearly I have to share it with all my friends.

I love bacon. Therefore I love this poem:)
Your words flowed like hot bacon grease out of a pan. They stuck in my teeth like little bacon bits. I wanted to swallow all the bacon-y goodness that was your writing.
Or would you have preferred “Nice poem?”
I like the former for its humor and originality, but my over blown ego will totally accept the “nice poem”, too. Thanks for reading!

For me, it’s cookies. I made him cookies lots of cookies 🙂 Love the poem ..
I’m sure cookies can inspire love…actually any food probably inspire love except possibly liver and onions.
I am hungry for bacon now. Thank you for that. 🙂

Just one of those things that make you go “Awwwwww..”
this is incredible!
I pressed the 100th ‘Like’. What’s the prize – the girl or the bacon? Actually, if I can be so forward, could I choose the bacon please? (the way to a man’s heart and all…)
I always thought bacon was magic, this is further proof. Great poem, I enjoyed it so much! 🙂
Hi Jess, Love your blog! What a great name for a blog. How did you come up with this name?
I asked my friend for a name and she gave it to me.
Been trying to write a bit of poetry myself lately and found this inspiring. Really lovely.
I’m glad I could inspire you! Keep on writing, it’s good for you.
this is good
Stumbled across this and was delighted I found it. Beautiful slice. Thankyou.

This is super sweet in a surprising way. I love it 😀
awesome one:)
I see this has a “humor” tag, but in all honesty, this kinda almost made me teary-eyed. Love love this.
I honestly never know what to tag things–if you look at the rest of my blog I usually just randomly put words to see if people accidentally stumble onto my poems. Thanks for reading!
